What a great 35th birthday celebration!

On 1 October the Hub was bursting with activity for our 35th birthday celebration and the Grand Opening Extravaganza for Seniors Festival. Lively and colourful performances filled the Stadium and Studios 1 and 2, while demonstrations occupied the library space and quieter pursuits such as art and craft filled Studios 6, 7, 8 and 9 as well as Meeting Room 2. See the photo galleries here for a taste of the fun: morning performances, afternoon performances, demos and exhibitions

So much talent!

Our members enjoyed showcasing their skills in the activities they love and the audiences joined in the spirit. Some of the highlights included:

  • the always colourful and entrancing belly dancing display
  • gorgeous costumes from the Chinese and Uyghur dancers to match their graceful movements
  • great moves from the Rock n’ Roll groups, dressed to impress
  • music and fun from all our talented groups including the Swing Band, the Choir, guitarists, ukelele players and a keyboard, guitar and singers
  • the penguin doorstops that distracted attention from the awe-inspiring patchwork creations
  • the intricate tea ceremony demonstration
  • a science demonstration
  • art and craft to inspire us all.

When hunger or thirst knocked, the cafe was ready with BBQ sausages, and of course the coffee machine.

Whitehorse Seniors Festival Grand Opening

Deputy Mayor Prue Cutts and Lisa Williams from the Whitehorse Positive Ageing team joined us to officially open the Whitehorse Seniors Festival. Our event is just the start of a month’s worth of activities for seniors across Whitehorse. 35th birthday celebration

No birthday celebration is complete without a cake and ours was no exception. Our talented Course Administrator, Elsie, baked not one but two cakes and sugar craft class leader Kitty Wong decorated them beautifully.

President Gary Walker joined Deputy Mayor Prue Cutts to cut the cake, which was then divided up for all to take a piece.

Thanks to all who made the day such a success

There’s a long list of people who made this day work:

  • Paulina Chong, whose organisation of the day is the key to it all
  • the performers and exhibitors and their class leaders who helped them prepare so well
  • Course Administrator Elsie Mutton for the cakes and Kitty Wong for decorating them
  • MCs Valerie Donlon and Sue Ebert
  • Music masters Lindsay Glen in the Stadium and James Briscoe (Ken’s grandson) in Studios 1 and 2
  • Committee members, and volunteers who worked hard behind the scenes to pull it together on the day
  • Whitehorse Council staff Craig and Callum as well as Lisa Williams from the Positive Ageing team.

Thank you to you all!
