Many of our members volunteer and help in many ways at U3A Nunawading. Members work in the community garden; organise the borrowing library; help with social activities and events; plan and organise Summer School; welcome new members and work on the Reception Desk; and Class Leaders volunteer their knowledge and skills to lead the classes that bring members back year after year.
Two special events were held last week to thank all these wonderful members.
A special morning tea
On Tuesday 3 December, a special morning tea was held in Studio 2 to acknowledge and thank our volunteers. Kitty Wong and June MacDonald decorated the room with beautiful and delicate paper decorations made in Kitty’s paper craft class. Thank you for sharing these with us. Bert Lopes and Lindsay Glen ensured Michael Bublé was singing Christmas songs in the background.
The volunteers enjoyed a delicious spread and the chance to catch up with others they may not see regularly. See the photo gallery here.
Our President, Gary Walker, thanked the volunteers for their many contributions. Elsie Mutton thanked the Reception Desk Volunteers for their support.
Thank you to Sue Fraser, Bronwyn Hughes, Carl Di Giovine, Philip Chan, Marlene Fernandez, Kim Tu and Vivian Tan for helping with the setting up and packing up of the morning tea.
We wish the volunteers a safe and happy festive season before they come back to do it all again in 2025.

Christmas lunch for Class Leaders
Wednesday 4 December saw around 190 Class Leaders and special guests gather in Studios 1 and 2 for a tasty Christmas lunch and a chance to enjoy the company of their colleagues.
Special guests included Annie Grigg, President of U3A Network Victoria; Denise Massoud, outgoing Whitehorse councillor for our ward; Lisa Williams from the Whitehorse Positive Ageing team; Kieran Schneider and Yoyo Lou from the Nunawading Community Hub team.
Annie Grigg presented Network Tutor Recognition Awards to Paulina Chong and Helen Smith for their significant contributions to U3A Nunawading and then we settled into our lunch of roast beef, roast pork and salads.
Following the lunch, presentations were made to retiring Class Leaders, thanking them for their efforts over the year.
Then, our Course Administrator Elsie picked out a number of Class Leaders to ask them why they joined U3A. While the answers varied, a common theme was the pleasure people got from sharing their knowledge with others in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
Dessert, tea and coffee completed a most enjoyable event. See the photo gallery here.
Thank you, Class Leaders, for your contributions to U3A Nunawading in 2024 and we look forward to learning with you again in 2025.
