Summer School 2021 a success

Summer School 2021 exercise class

January’s Summer School was highly anticipated after a Covid 2020 year and the excitement of having our new Community Hub building as the venue. Both Class Leaders and participants were impressed by the new surroundings.

This year we had approximately 325 enrolments in Summer School. For the past three years enrolments have averaged around 375 so this is an excellent result given the challenges of operating under Covid restrictions. Members who attended enjoyed a variety of classes including exercise, craft activities, sessions on nutrition, spirituality, history and human interest.

Many people contributed to making this year’s Summer School a success.

Course Admin team Elsie Mutton and Ken Briscoe took on much of the organising this year as access to the office was limited to others before the official opening of the new Hub.

The Summer School Committee comprising Lorraine Sterling (Convenor), Barbara Gardiner, Sue Ebert, Colin Carter, Joe Demko, Judith Palmer, assisted by Liz Hooper, began planning offsite in June. This involved contacting possible Leaders and arranging class times.

The uncertainty throughout 2020 regarding restrictions was an issue to be dealt with as rules changed. It wasn’t until December that we knew we would actually have a Summer School.

I am very grateful to all these people for their assistance during the uncertain times.

Judith rostered on some very capable office volunteers to help members with signing in and finding rooms.

Special thanks to Lindsay Glen and Bert Lopes for their invaluable assistance in familiarising Class Leaders with the new audio visual systems at the Hub both before and during Summer School.

Many thanks to all who helped make Summer School 2021 a great start to classes in our new surroundings.
