President’s Report

On Wednesday 20 August, we were pleased to welcome 115 members and 15 guests for the 2024/2025 Annual General Meeting. The business of the day included reporting to members on the activities of the Committee of Management and electing a new Committee of Management for 2025/2026, as well as setting the membership fees for the coming year.

At this AGM, we farewelled four Committee members and welcomed four new members. The AGM is also an opportunity to recognise significant contributions to U3A Nunawading, by awarding Life Membership. The Photo Gallery from the AGM gives a taste of the day.

Welcome to new Committee Members

At the AGM we welcomed four new members to the Committee of Management: Teresa O’Brien, Gita Hickman, Michelle Loh and Russell Baird. I am pleased to welcome these fresh faces to the Committee of Management team, and I am looking forward to their contributions to the running of U3A Nunawading.

Thank you to retiring members

At this AGM, four Committee members stepped down: Athalie Edis who has been on the committee for six years and has managed our Reception Desk volunteer roster, Summer School 2025 and more; Carola Lehmer who has been a Committee member for two years and has supported our Treasurer, as well as managed the Governance and Risk Management areas; Sue Fraser who has also been on the Committee for two years and served on several sub-committees; and Philip Chan after one year’s service.

I sincerely thank you for your excellent contributions over many years. Your hard and dedicated work at U3A Nunawading has had a huge influence on its continued success and you will all be greatly missed. The good news is that these members will not be lost to U3A Nunawading as they will still be contributing from outside the Committee of Management.

Presentation of Life Memberships

At a meeting of the Committee on 25 May 2023, the Committee passed a new resolution so that Life Membership now recognises any member who has made an exceptional contribution to U3A Nunawading. Under these new rules, it was my pleasure to present Life Membership to Maureen Milton OAM and Tony Widdows for outstanding service to U3A Nunawading. Your dedicated service is certainly worthy of the honour bestowed upon both of you.

Fees for 2026

The membership fees for 2026 will remain at $60.

EACH

There is an office at the front of our original building that houses Early Access Community Health, known to us as EACH.

Alana Weekes, the Team Leader of the EACH Youth and Family Counselling Team, addressed the meeting and explained to us all the fabulous work they do with youth counselling.

Thanks to the Social Committee

To round off the morning, there was a light lunch in Studio 1 with sandwiches and cakes provided by the VMCH cafe, and fruit, tea and coffee served by the Social Committee. Flowers from the garden graced the tables.

Many thanks to the Social Committee members for helping to round off a very successful meeting.

Until next time,
Gary
