U3A Nunawading is such a wonderful place because of all the work put in by the hundreds of Class Leaders and other Volunteers. To thank everyone for their efforts, the Committee provides a Christmas lunch for Class Leaders and a morning tea for all the Volunteers who contribute to running our Reception Desk and other activities.
Recognising our Volunteers
On Tuesday 2 December, 84 Volunteers gathered in Studio 2 for a delicious morning tea in recognition of their service to our U3A during 2025. Adding to the festive atmosphere was our brand-new white Christmas tree packed with decorations created by Kitty Wong’s paper craft class. See the photo gallery here
Our President, Gary Walker, thanked all our Volunteers, who contribute not just to the Reception Desk but also to the Gardening group, Library, Social Committee, Member Liaison, A/V Support, Newsletter team and Appy Hour. Course Administrator Elsie added thanks from the Course Admin team.
Thank you to Gary Walker, Marlene Fernandes, Bronwyn Hughes and the Social Committee members for helping with the setting up and packing up of the morning tea.
We wish the Volunteers a safe and happy festive season and hope to see you all again in 2026.

Class Leaders end-of-year lunch
Studios 1 and 2 were nearly full on Wednesday 3 December when 195 Class Leaders gathered together for a tasty Christmas lunch and a chance to enjoy the company of their colleagues after a very successful year of classes in 2025. See the photo gallery here
Special guests included Cr Kirsten Langford, City of Whitehorse Mayor; Lisa Williams from the Whitehorse Positive Ageing team; Kieran Schneider (Facility Manager, Leisure Services – and most importantly our Hub); Sonia German and Yoyo Lou (Facility Team Leaders at the Hub).
Prior to dessert, the Course Admin team, Elsie and Ken, made presentations to thank retiring Class Leaders for their efforts over the years, and special mention was made of a number of awards received during 2025:
- Maria Ryan received a Tutor Recognition award from U3A Network
- Colin Carter received a Victoria Day Award
- Terry Hart received a COTA Senior Achievers Award
Elsie then picked out a number of Class Leaders to ask them why they joined U3A. While the answers varied, a common theme was the pleasure people got from sharing their knowledge with others in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
A sumptuous spread of desserts, tea and coffee completed a most enjoyable event.
Thank you to Class Leaders for your contributions to U3A Nunawading in 2025. We look forward to learning with you again in 2026.
