Snippets

With winter upon us, it’s important to stay warm and healthy. In our June Snippets we feature the Hub café for hearty holiday catchups; an upcoming Arts exhibition; a reminder to get your flu shot; details on how to get cash back on your car registration; a reflection on the stunning colours of Autumn and, if you’re looking after little ones, check out the school holiday program.

Here’s a great spot to meet friends

The ‘Where is my coffee?’ café at Nunawading community hub is open from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm throughout the holidays. You can enjoy a great coffee and some delicious food made by one of the lovely trainees, such as Ryan (pictured). For orders over $10, there is a 10% discount for U3A members over the holiday break; bring your U3A name badge.

Local artists shine

Enjoy the popular annual Box Hill Arts Group exhibition from 19 to 21 June at the Box Hill Lower Town Hall. Presented in conjunction with the Whitehorse Arts Association and Alkira, the opening is on Friday 19 June at 8 pm. Exhibition times on Saturday 20 June are from 10 am to 5 pm and on Sunday 21 June from 10 am to 4 pm. Original artwork will also be available for purchase.

Stay healthy and get your jab

Don’t forget to get your annual free flu vaccination to help fight off winter coughs and colds. It’s free for seniors. Check with your GP or local chemist. For more information go to: Influenza (flu) vaccine | Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing

Car registration rebate

The Victorian Government has announced a cost-of-living relief package that will allow eligible Victorians to apply for a 20% rebate on light vehicle registration fees. You can apply from now until 31 July 2026, for more details go to: Rego Rebate | Service Victoria

Reflecting on the colours of Autumn

The mellow weather of Autumn was perfectly matched with the stunning display of the changing leaves in surrounding trees, and this was particularly evident with the brilliant reds and yellows of the trees on the oval behind the Hub captured in these photos.
