On Monday 12 July I was listening to members enthusing about how wonderful it was to be back at classes again after a lengthy break, and how much they enjoyed the intellectual stimulation and the social connection that our classes offer.
Just four days later, we were back in lockdown. Let’s hope that we can get on top of this latest outbreak soon.
On a positive note, it is pleasing to know that so many of our members are vaccinated. It is only when a high proportion of our population is fully vaccinated that we will be able to avoid lockdowns.
Annual General Meeting
Our AGM will be held at 11am on Wednesday 18 August. At this stage, we are planning for it to be held face-to-face in studios 1 and 2. We also have a back-up plan for a Zoom AGM. Either way, you will need to register on-line via UMAS as if enrolling for a class. A formal Notice of Annual General Meeting will be sent to all members nearer to the date, after which time you will be able to register to attend. Please note that this year, classes will only be cancelled on the day of the AGM from 11.00am to 12.00pm.
31st Anniversary Celebration
We are also planning to celebrate our 31st anniversary as our 30th was cancelled last year due to the long lockdown. A week of activities, demonstrations and exhibits is being planned for the week beginning Monday 6 September. What we can offer will depend on COVID restrictions at that time. We will keep you informed as the week approaches.
Stay safe, and hopefully we will be back at U3A again very soon!
Cheers and warm wishes,
Liz Hooper (President, on behalf of the Committee of Management)
