Our Reception Desk volunteers are our front line when it comes to member inquiries so it’s important that they are kept up-to-date with the information they need to do their job. With such a stop/start year in 2021 it is doubly so this year with a number of new procedures put in place over recent months.

Liz Hooper welcomed volunteers

Prior to classes commencing, an Orientation Session was held on 1 February at the Hub for nearly 50 Reception Desk Volunteers. During the session, the volunteers heard from a number of speakers including President Liz Hooper who welcomed and thanked them for the wonderful job they do to enhance U3A Nunawading’s reputation as a friendly and helpful organisation.

Reception Desk Volunteer Co-ordinator Judith Palmer then spoke about their important role within U3A and the materials available to assist them carry out their duties. The Duty Committee Members’ role and what they do to support the Reception Desk was also covered.

Fee payment refresher

Our Treasurer Pauline Wang went through how the volunteers should process the various types of membership fee payment such as cheques and credit and debit cards, and reminded them that we no longer take cash at the Hub.

Next our Course Administrator Elsie Mutton gave an overview of the work she and Ken Briscoe do to manage classes and enrolments, providing information to assist the volunteers in their communications with members.

Finally, Committee Member Terry Hart gave a presentation on evacuation procedures for the Hub.

After the presentations, the volunteers were invited to meet and chat with their fellow team members.

Still room for more volunteers

Our Reception Desk roster still has a few vacancies so if you have a half-day a month you would be happy to volunteer to U3A, please contact Judith Palmer on 0417 553 855.
