Members who drive up and down Springvale Road will no doubt be keeping a close eye on progress of the new Nunawading Community Hub.
Around mid-2020, U3A Nunawading will join Meals-on-wheels and a wide range of other community groups as tenants of the environmentally-sustainable building, which will feature:
- solar renewable energy for lighting and hot water heating
- rainwater harvesting for toilet flushing, with tank capacity of approximately 100,000 litres
- natural light optimisation
- double-glazing in areas of direct sunlight
- low energy lighting with LED fittings throughout the building
- use of natural and durable materials such as timbers and concrete with recycled content
- planting in car park and recreation spaces to offset carbon footprint.
With the building framework, roofing and cladding now in place, the Hub is expected to achieve lock-up stage by Christmas 2019.
