Progress on the Hub (December 2019)

Members who drive up and down Springvale Road will no doubt be keeping a close eye on progress of the new Nunawading Community Hub.

Around mid-2020, U3A Nunawading will join Meals-on-wheels and a wide range of other community groups as tenants of the environmentally-sustainable building, which will feature:

  • solar renewable energy for lighting and hot water heating
  • rainwater harvesting for toilet flushing, with tank capacity of approximately 100,000 litres
  • natural light optimisation
  • double-glazing in areas of direct sunlight
  • low energy lighting with LED fittings throughout the building
  • use of natural and durable materials such as timbers and concrete with recycled content
  • planting in car park and recreation spaces to offset carbon footprint.

With the building framework, roofing and cladding now in place, the Hub is expected to achieve lock-up stage by Christmas 2019.
