President Gary Walker and August Forum speaker Winston Furlong
With a new Committee of Management, Seniors Festival and Spring Festival being celebrated in and around the Hub, an active Social Committee and preparation for next year’s enrolment, there’s plenty happening at U3A Nunawading.
Committee of Management
It is nearly a month since our AGM and members of the new Committee of Management are all busy working in their respective roles. New members Carol Clough, Sue Ebert and Lorraine Fowles, have taken their places on the Office Duty roster and are doing a great job supporting our Reception Desk Volunteers.
Community engagement
On Friday 2 September, Committee Member Lindsay Glen and I attended an “Ageing Well in Whitehorse Workshop” where the Council are engaging with the seniors community to determine where future funding should go to encourage healthy ageing in the municipality.
Seniors Festival
U3A Nunawading will be hosting the launch of Seniors Festival in Whitehorse on Sunday 2 October. A sub-committee is arranging many activities for the day and I extend a special ‘thank you’ to Paulina Chong for co-ordinating the outdoor entertainment and Athalie Edis and Cindy Lam for organising the indoor displays and exhibitions. I encourage everyone to get along to the Hub on Sunday 2 October.
2023 enrolment
The Course Admin team is busy working on the enrolment process for our 2023 classes. Current members will be able to enrol from Monday 28 November and course information will be available online and in booklet form from Monday 14 November.
Summer School
This sub-committee is working hard to finalise a very interesting program of lectures, workshops, cooking demonstrations, physical activity classes and excursions, which will run from Monday 9 to Friday 20 January 2023. There’s plenty to look forward to over the long break.
Social events
The Social Committee will be hosting another Coffee and Cake function on 13 October for all members who want to drop by, as well as a Cup Eve afternoon on Monday 31 October. Fashions on the Field and Cup Sweeps with a phantom call of the Melbourne Cup are just a few of the highlights planned. Full details including how to book will be in our October Update.
Newsletter on the noticeboard
For those who have trouble accessing the internet, there is now a printed copy of our monthly Update newsletter on the U3A noticeboard on the upper level of the Hub outside Studio 5.
Till next time,
Gary Walker, President
