There was entertainment, smiling faces and sunshine in abundance at the launch of the Seniors Festival in Whitehorse hosted by U3A Nunawading at the Community Hub on Sunday 2 October.
So much to see and do

A steady stream of people attended the Hub precinct throughout the day from 10am until 4pm to view the varied exhibitions and demonstrations. Skills on display included patchwork, needlework, knitting, crochet, tatting, geological discoveries, chess, calligraphy, drawing with coloured pencils, pen and ink, card making, water colour and pastels, and Japanese dancing, as well as work by members of the Whitehorse Arts Association and Nunawading Lapidary Club.
An enthusiastic crowd gathered on the lawn to watch U3A members showcase their skills in Line dancing, Philippine dance, Cantonese opera, Laughter yoga, Greek dancing, Zumba, the Choir, Belly dancing, Tai Chi, Chinese dance, Jazz improvisation and the Swing band.
Whitehorse City Council Mayor Cr Tina Liu and many of the councillors attended to do the official opening and U3A President Gary Walker invited our Ward Councillor Denise Massoud to draw the raffle.

It takes a village

Many thanks to the dozens of U3A members who volunteered their time and expertise to make the day a success.
The event sub-committee, co-ordinated by Elsie Mutton, is to be congratulated for arranging the day so well – Paulina Chong for co-ordinating the outdoor entertainment, Athalie Edis and Cindy Lam for organising the indoor displays and exhibitions, Lindsay Glen and Bert Lopes for arranging the marquee and technical support, and Vice President Valerie Donlon who was the master of ceremonies.
