Leaders gather for annual Christmas lunch

There was a great buzz at the Hub last Wednesday when more than 150 of our Class Leaders and members of the Committee of Management celebrated another great year at U3A Nunawading. Seeing such a dedicated and committed group of volunteers, who contribute so much to the lives of our members, all together at the one time was inspiring.

After end-of-year lunches with their own class members, our Leaders were able to catch up with their colleagues and be thanked as a group by President Gary Walker for all of the hard work they do each week to ensure our classes are interesting and engaging. And, judging by the huge number of enrolments and length of some of our waitlists for next year, they certainly are doing a fantastic job!

The lunch was also attended by Deputy Mayor Cr Prue Cutts (pictured right with President Gary Walker), Lake Ward Councillor Denise Massoud (pictured left), Acting Hub Co-ordinator Eliza Price, Hub Supervisor Alex Brunetti, Life Members, and other key U3A Nunawading volunteers.

Course Administrator Elsie Mutton OAM hosted the event in her own unique style, having known some of the Class Leaders for over 20 years and took the opportunity of getting some of them to tell the gathering why they volunteered. Their stories varied but all of them said how much they themselves got back from the experience.

Councillors Massoud and Cutts both addressed the guests and acknowledged the great work done by all of our volunteers and commented on what a great organisation U3A is and what we do for the community, even giving our wonderful garden a mention.
