Snippets

February’s Snippets includes a call-out for volunteer book sorters; March celebrations for International Women’s Day and the Victorian Cultural Diversity Week; and an opportunity to sign-up for a free wellness and healthy ageing course.

Volunteer book sorters needed

Help is needed from members to tidy up the books and maintain our community library at The Hub. On Friday 3 March, we plan to clear the shelves, sort the books we want to keep, then arrange them back on the shelf in alphabetical order. Books that are no longer required will be made available for members to take home. If you are free that Friday and would like to volunteer to help, please leave your name, and email address at the Reception Desk as soon as possible and we will contact you with the details. U3A Nunawading is proudly run by volunteers and all support is much appreciated.

N.B. This plan does not include Military History books which is capably managed by members of that class.

Join the International Women’s Day celebrations

All U3A Nunawading members are invited to a morning tea on Wednesday 8 March from 9:40 am to 11:40 am to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD). The theme this year is ‘Cracking the Code: Innovation for gender equal to the future.’ Innovation is a driver of change. While innovation has the power to transform lives, we know that there are still many barriers to equity. Access to digital technologies and education is critical for women and girls. The economic and values case for empowering women is compelling.

Purple, green and white are the IWD colours. Everyone is welcome to show their support by wearing the IWD colours to celebrate the contributions of women. You can also join a group discussion and share your own experiences; or bring a long-a-go photo to show your friends how you’ve changed or made a difference. Crack the Code and learn to ‘construct and fly’ your own plane. (Origami – of course!)

Victorian Cultural Diversity Week 11 – 21 March

Watch out for the activities planned to help recognise the Victorian Cultural Diversity Week and the 2023 theme, Our Past. Our Future: Celebrating and reflecting on the contributions of Victoria’s multicultural communities. Posters with more information will be displayed at the Hub soon.
