Book now for Four o’clock Forums

Staying strong and keeping technically safe are two of the topics coming up in our popular Four o’clock Forums. There is no forum in June, and get in quick to book for July and August.

Strong people stay young

Nicole Shue, Exercise Physiologist and Piotr Korczyk, Physiotherapist: Wednesday 26 July, Studio 2 at 4 pm

Nicole and Piotr believe we can be strong and stay strong. They will share their experience of working with ‘ageing bodies’. Bodies like mine which has changed without notice or permission, as the years go by. They will reveal the statistics for men and women of the effects, on the body, of fat composition and muscle deterioration.

Something many of us become vulnerable to is falling. Adapting to post-surgery rehabilitation, lowering of bone density, arthritis, dementia and the big one, cardio-vascular disease is not for the faint-hearted. Nicole and Piotr will talk about preventing deterioration and demonstrate some practical measures. The accredited, Australian Physical Activity Guidelines for aerobics and resistance training will be explained realistically (with humour) for our demographic. Finally, there is that acronym LBP – and who hasn’t suffered from some lower back pain? I am told, ‘this is due to a cycle of deconditioning’. Right! So, come and listen to our July Forum with two reputable specialists presenting on how to stay strong.

Take control of your technical life

Dianne Bunney, Bachelor of Applied Science and Founder of P1 Technologies: Wednesday 30 August, Studio 2 at 4pm

Did I suddenly hear a collective groan hit the ether? Has that little blue ‘circle of death’ ever just gone around and around on your computer screen, and everything freezes? Ever lost your contact list or been overwhelmed by advertisements? What about that message that comes in from Australia Post about a parcel waiting for you? How about an email or text that you haven’t paid your City Link account, and the ATO is going to prosecute you, or a bank will close your account if you don’t update your information? Then there is the friendly Telstra fellow who will improve your internet or NBN speed if you let them control your computer. Should you let some-one else transfer all your data and passwords to a new phone or computer? I was nearly caught out on the, ‘Hello Mum I have dropped my phone down the toilet’ scam. If any of this sounds familiar, this forum is for you.

Dianne will talk to us about issues like, scams, hacking, computer viruses and all those technological nasties that make us anxious, and provide her insights and expertise on how we protect ourselves.

Please enrol for the July and August Four o’clock Forums online through U-MAS for Members or at the Reception Desk.
