U3A are now able to use the large TV screens throughout the building to advertise upcoming functions or communicate important information to our ever-increasing membership.
Currently the screens are advertising our “Christmas in July” function on 4 July at the Mulgrave Country Club which the Social Committee is busy organising. As it is in term break I look forward to catching up with as many members as possible at this social function.
Cancer Council fundraiser
On Tuesday 6 June, our Social Committee supported long-time member Cheryl Stanner in providing a very yummy morning tea in support of the Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea at the Hub. Thank you to all members who attended and supported the function which raised much-needed funds for a very worthwhile cause.
As you can see, Cheryl (in the red apron) was happy to help members with their phone issues as well as to an array of delicious treats during the event.
Deakin Community Awards update
Recently U3A Nunawading submitted nominations for the 2023 Deakin Community Awards and I am pleased to inform you that both of our nominations were successful. Lindsay Glen is to receive a 2023 Deakin Community Award in the Seniors Category. Lindsay has been a member of U3A Nunawading for over 20 years and has served on the Committee of Management since 2001. Lindsay was president from 2004 until 2007, and is still on the Committee of Management serving as our Facilities and IT Co-ordinator as well as our representative to EMR and U3A Network Council. Congratulations Lindsay.
U3A Nunawading has been chosen to receive a Deakin Community Award in the Group Category and I congratulate the Committee of Management, leaders and all volunteers who contribute to the efficient running of our organisation. I will be pleased to accept this award on your behalf at the awards ceremony on Friday 23 June.
New Committee members wanted
The Annual General Meeting of U3A Nunawading will be held on Wednesday 16 August and I invite members who might be interested in joining our Committee of Management to get in touch with me for a chat. After many years of service to our U3A, we have some current Committee members who will not be standing for re-election at this year’s AGM and I look forward to hearing from you if you are interested in making a contribution as a Committee member.
Until next time,
Gary
