In this edition of Snippets, we take a look at member celebrations for the Lunar Mid-Autumn Festival; there’s a reminder of the October festivities for seniors; an update on great savings for Aqualink memberships; an opportunity to contribute to a national survey on ageing well; and there’s news about the Hub’s international award nomination.
Moon cakes for the Lunar Mid-Autumn Festival

At the end of Term 3, members enjoyed the opportunity to make Moon cakes in preparation for the Lunar Mid-Autumn Festival on 29 September (during term holidays). Pictured are members who enjoyed making moon cakes for the festival with class leader Lan Tiet.
The Lunar Mid-Autumn Festival takes place on the full moon around the end of September or early October, coinciding with harvest time in the middle of autumn.
Dating back over 3,000 years, the Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture; its popularity is on par with that of the Lunar New Year.
Activities galore for Seniors Month

There is a great program of activities locally and statewide to celebrate Seniors Month throughout October. To view what’s happening go to https://www.seniorsonline.vic.gov.au/victorian-seniors-festival and https://www.whitehorse.vic.gov.au/things-do/festivals-and-events/seniors-festival

National ageing well survey

The Institute of Health and Wellbeing at Federation University Australia is conducting a study exploring the factors that may contribute to successful ageing. Participants over 65 years of age are invited to respond to a series of questionnaires about a range of topics, like physical health, engagement with the community, mental health, life experiences, and views on what it means to age well.
It will take approximately one hour to complete and you can go into a draw to win one of four $50 e-gift cards. See details of the survey here.
Nunawading Community Hub nominated for international award

The Nunawading Community Hub has been shortlisted in the ‘Community Centres’ category of the 2023 International Architectural Awards, organised by the Chicago Athenaeum’s Museum of Architecture and Design. It was designed by Melbourne architects fjcstudio, who incorporated the refurbished heritage school building into the centre’s design.
The Hub has also achieved a 5 Star Green Star Rating for its environmentally-friendly elements including the use of solar panels to generate energy and rainwater harvesting. Other Community Centres in Vietnam, China and South Korea have also been named as finalists.
