Congratulations to Military History group leader Mel Green for a sterling effort during lockdown!

While classes have been suspended, Mel has produced a weekly ‘COVID mini edition’ newsletter highlighting one or more interesting military history events.

Of particular interest in this NAIDOC week is the 7-part Australian Frontier Wars series highlighting a number of military battles that are often not recognised in the history of colonial Australia, many against the indigenous people.

The feature image above, however, shows a battle between convicts and soldiers. The painting, by an unknown artist, of the ‘Second Battle of Vinegar Hill’ depicts the scene where several hundred convicts broke out of Castle Hill (NSW) prison farm to take on the British redcoats. These COVID mini edition newsletters are available for all to read on our website under the Learning Online section.

Many other members of the group also helped keeping in touch by modifying history presentations to an online format which were distributed to the class each week of the lockdown.

Well done all!
