President’s Report

Reception Desk volunteer, Jenny Chalmers, shows President Gary Walker the course lookup computer.

Welcome back to all members after our term break. I do hope that you had the opportunity to catch up with family and friends or better still get away from the Melbourne cold weather. I had a week’s break on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland where it proceeded to rain every day.

The City of Whitehorse, in partnership with Villa Maria Catholic Homes, are installing a Social Enterprise Café in the area nearest to the upstairs corridor, and on completion the Café will be serving coffee, snacks, and cake. Read on for more about what this means for you.

What this means for U3A members

There will be some disruption to the lunch area whilst the building of the Café takes place. The plan is to commence the building around mid-August and finish by the end of September.

Lunch options

During this time, the lunch area will be blocked off and not accessible for our use.

You will still be able to have lunch in various areas away from the building site, but, if possible, I suggest that unless you need to stay for an extra class it’s best to leave the building when your class finishes.

If you are having lunch downstairs near our library, please remember to try to keep the noise down to enable the reception desk volunteers to hear on the phone or when answering queries.

If you are looking for an extra microwave, you will find one on the bench opposite the reception desk.

The vending machine will be moved to outside the Stadium.

Let’s work together

We will all need to work together whilst this building is taking place, so please let’s have patience.

Christmas in July

More than seventy members of U3A Nunawading celebrated Christmas in July at the Mulgrave Country Club on Thursday 4 July. Reports from those who attended were that it was a very enjoyable function, and thank you to the Social Committee for their usual professional organisation.

The AGM is nearly here

The next Annual General Meeting of U3A Nunawading will be held on Wednesday 21 August here at the Hub and I encourage all members to attend this very important meeting.

At this meeting all positions on the Committee of Management become vacant and I encourage members to consider nominating for Committee for 24/25. Nomination forms are available from the Secretary.

Official notification of the AGM will be on the U3A notice board, on the website and at reception from 29 July.

Until next time…
Gary
