Celebrating the art of public speaking

By Elsie Mutton OAM, Course Administrator

In 2012, Keith Graham asked, “Do you think Public Speaking would be a class that members may want to attend?” Here we are, twelve years on and four hundred classes later, and the class is still going strong.

On Saturday 24 August at Jenny and Keith Graham’s home, past and current members came together to celebrate this achievement. Many memories were shared, and it was decided that Margaret Riseley, closely followed by Patrick Abrahams, were the longest attending members of the class.

In typical fashion, Keith and Jenny had put a lot of thought into making the evening entertaining. The theme for the night was ‘dinosaurs’ and guests were entertained by quiz questions, and telling jokes, along with good food and drinks. All up a happy celebration.

Building confidence to speak in public

Many members have attended the class and left with the confidence to stand-up in front of a group, and not be nervous about speaking.

If you would like to feel confident and enjoy the art of public speaking, this class will help you. It may take up to six weeks for you to settle in and find your inner courage, but if you persevere you will succeed, and the class is very supportive. The Public Speaking class is held on Mondays at 9.15 am. To enrol, the course code is 24HUM034.
