By Joan Kelleher, Ancient Egyptian History Class Leader

As we have done for many years, on the last day of Term 2, the Ancient Egyptian History class came together to share their love of Ancient Egypt.
As usual, it was an enjoyable and interesting session. Students contribute by bringing in items including stories and photos that they have collected over the years and present them to the class.
Sophie very proudly showed off her Ramses II cap that she had bought at the Egyptian Exhibition in Sydney. A King Tut tea shirt, scarab beetle necklace and another necklace with her name in hieroglyphs surrounded by a cartouche completed her ensemble.
Books, jewellery, and a coin belt
Several other students had cartouche necklaces that they proudly displayed. Anne showed us some beautiful books and several interesting statues from her collection. Maree and Jacinta brought in a belt made of coins that is used in belly dancing and several pieces of fantastic jewellery. They also played a belly dance tune on castanets, but didn’t dance for us (neither did I – to everyone’s relief!).

Egyptian art and sculptures
A beautiful painted papyrus depicting female musicians and dancers at a party was Devika’s contribution, and I showed several pieces of Ancient Egyptian sculpture (all replicas of course!) and photos of some large, framed papyri from my collection.
