Leading Senior Constable Curtis Williams from Crime prevention and Community engagement, Victoria Police, was well received. He gave lots of good, useful information about being aware of your surroundings especially at the ATM, on the street, on public transport and in the home.
He took several questions from the audience and spoke of various ways to secure your home which are not too costly.
CCTV for the home was discussed and various things to consider when installing a unit. It is much better to have a colour unit installed, as it makes identification of an intruder more reliable than if you have a black and white unit which tends to grey images out.
The issue of scams was addressed and reinforced about not giving people you don’t know your information. Always ask where the person is from, and ask for a phone number that you can check.
He reminded the audience that big institutions will not cold call, they usually send letters or emails. Always check an email before clicking any attachment.
Finally, pay attention to your surroundings and keep your wits about you.
