End-of-Year Concert 2023

The concert was a celebration of the diverse talents within the U3A family. As the event came to a close, the audience and performers alike left having a sense of camaraderie and contentedness that the end of year brings.

A musical feast

It was a delightful End-of-Year Concert celebrating music, activities, and dance. In the first half of the morning, our musicians from the Swing Band filled the studios with rhythmic beats of music from old-time favourites.

The musical journey continued with three of our guitar classes performing different genres of contemporary tunes and folk songs which were accompanied by group singing. Our ukulele classes made their debut with gusto, plucking away the intricate chords, or strumming some melodies which had the audience tapping their feet.

The harmonious voices of the choir then entertained the audience with a repertoire of favourite and popular songs. The finale included singing a small section of the song, ‘I am Australian’, which embraced the beauty of diversity that resonated and continues to resonate in our community.

Raffle winners

Our President, Gary Walker, drew the two winners of the raffle who won a quilt each. The quilts were made and donated by the Patchwork 2 class, and the proceeds from the sale of the raffle tickets were presented to the Nunawading Scouts Group.

Audience participation was a highlight

The afternoon session of the concert continued featuring activities such as Walking Qigong. Participants were invited to join in the movements which promote synchronised breathing and vitality. Laughter yoga brought infectious joy to the gathering, proving that laughter truly is the best medicine. Attendees embraced the therapeutic benefits of hearty laughter and a sense of well-being.

The Rock & Roll Leaders then gave a whizzed-up, but simple version, on how to get started in dancing Rock’n’Roll. Many from the audience experienced the lively moves which gave them the spirit of the ‘50s. Line dancing enthusiasts then took to the floor and stepped to the pop beats. The energy remained high when the Zumba and Dance exercise leaders demonstrated their expertise as the participants joined in the vibrant dance moves, and ended the concert with the spirit of Christmas in the air.
