Four O'Clock Forum logo
Dr Andrew Wilks

Dr Andrew Wilks will present the first of our Four O’Clock Forums on this fascinating topic at 4.00pm on Wednesday 28 July. The Forum will be held in Studio 2 and run from 4pm – 5pm.

Professor Wilks is a serial entrepreneur with twenty-five years on the ‘dark side’, following a highly successful academic career as a cancer researcher at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research.

At the Ludwig, his laboratory focused on the intracellular processes that underpinned the development of cancer. He discovered, named and patented key cell signalling molecules, including the JAK family of kinases, and went on to found Cytopia in 1997, one of Australia’s earliest ASX-listed drug discovery companies.

At Cytopia, he developed a number of new therapeutics aimed at cancer and hematological disorders. Since then he has founded or co-founded eleven companies that undertake self-funded drug discovery or provide drug discovery services to the global drug discovery sector.

Andrew holds an Adjunct/Honorary Professorship in the Department of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University, and is an Honorary Enterprise Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne. He is also a Fellow at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, Australia’s premier medical research institute.
