Photo: Course Administrator Elsie Mutton OAM, who exemplifies many of the qualities of a strong contemporary woman, had the honour of cutting the IWD cake
The morning tea held to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March attracted a steady stream of members who were very keen to chat, enjoy a cuppa and cake, and try their hand at making butterflies and paper planes, which they could take for a test run outside.

The outstanding decorations and activities reflected this year’s theme of ‘Innovation for a gender equal future’ and the IWD colours of purple, green and white.
There were beautiful flowers, a groovy lady model rocking a 60s look, rotating images on an electronic screen showing milestone images of the past and a very creative silhouette lady with purple and green tulle adorned with butterflies. See the photo gallery for more pictures of the day.
Big thank you
It was the efforts and commitment of many members that made IWD 2023 an overwhelming success and we applaud and thank everyone who contributed to the memorable morning tea. Thank you to June MacDonald who organised the event with the support of the Social Committee which is convened by Carol Clough. June and members of the Papercraft class were responsible for the decorations, setting up the tables and the flowers. Ann Wang made the IWD cake. Paulina Chong prepared the screen images and Council Officer Craig Pearcey uploaded them. The florist at Tunstall Square also loaned the lady model.
