This year’s new Class Leaders joined the many highly experienced Leaders for a briefing at the Hub by Course Administrator Elsie Mutton OAM in preparation for the beginning of Term 1.
Similar sessions take place every year to ensure your Class Leaders are up-to-date with health and safety issues such as evacuation procedures, what to do in a medical emergency or a case of fire and the current U3A COVID-19 protocols.
Admin reminders
Around 140 of our 180 Leaders were present to hear Elsie explain the administration procedures that affect them as well as reminders for the members of their classes about badge-wearing, mobile phones and punctuality.
Evacuation procedures
Terry Hart, who is a Class Leader as well as being the member of the Committee of Management responsible for Risk Management, ran through the Hub’s evacuation procedures and gave an audio demonstration of the ‘woop woop’ sound that would see us all heading for the exits.
Having in excess of 240 classes operating every week it is vital that we all understand how this magnificent volunteer machine that is U3A works and our role in it.

Volunteers are key
Please remember:
- without our Class Leaders we wouldn’t have any classes
- without our administrators we wouldn’t have a program to offer members or a way of getting them into classes
- without our front desk volunteers we wouldn’t have face-to-face service for our members
- without a Committee of Management we wouldn’t have a venue or a team to run what is a very large organisation of around 1900 members.
And they are all volunteers!
