Afternoon tea for Life Members

Life Members pictured at the afternoon tea are

(back row L-R) Andrew Lockwood, Paul Makinson, Ken Briscoe, David Gannon, Leo Sargent and Valerie Donlon.

Twelve of U3A Nunawading’s 25 Life Members met at the Hub during the September holidays at the group’s inaugural social event.

U3A Nunawading’s Committee of Management awards Life Membership to members who have demonstrated a significant contribution to our U3A over many years. Initially, restricted to members who served as President, Secretary or Treasurer, Life Membership now acknowledges an outstanding contribution made by anyone within the entire membership.

Up to two Life Memberships are awarded each year and at this year’s Annual General Meeting Paulina Chong and Ken Briscoe were announced as our 2026 recipients.

At the afternoon tea, President Colin Carter, a Life Member himself, led an enthusiastic discussion on how our U3A has developed since its early days in Central Road and how it is currently meeting the challenges of being such a large and diverse organisation run entirely by volunteers.

The Life Members plan to meet two or three times a year as a way of staying connected with others within this small group of members who have played such a significant role in the development of our wonderful U3A over its 36-year history.

The names of all U3A Nunawading’s Life Members can be seen on the honour board in the Committee of Management office area.
