Cup Eve Afternoon Tea a treat for all

The cold and wet weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of the almost 90 members and guests who attended our inaugural Cup Eve event at the Hub.

Organised by our busy Social Committee, this was their last event of the year and they spared no effort in ensuring all who attended had a great time as our photos clearly show.

Guests were warmly greeted by committee members with a glass of bubbly or soft drink and directed to their tables in the combined Studios 1 & 2. The tables were set with white cloths, pink roses and bowls of chocolates, which created an elegant afternoon party atmosphere, enhanced by elegance of the guests.

It was great to see so many in attendance had really made an effort and looked resplendent in their race-wear, including hats, with Julie Teh winning the Ladies Fashions on the Field and Ray Thomas taking out the Gentlemen’s category. Quite a change from the tracksuits and comfy clothes we mostly see at U3A!

The $1, $2 and $5 sweep tickets in the Phantom Call of the big race were so popular that more tickets had to be printed on the day.

Everyone was also given a Mystery Bet on the actual Melbourne Cup and we can only hope that some lucky member pulled off the big one!

Adding to the afternoon’s entertainment, U3A Nunawading President Gary Walker, a keen racegoer himself, acted as MC and tested the horse racing knowledge of the attendees with his own rolling Trivia Quiz. More prizes were given out during the quiz and on top of that there was also a Lucky Door Prize.

Another great event for our members to enjoy, thanks to the hard work of our Social Committee.
