Message from the President – Dec 2019

Liz Hooper

Welcome to the first edition of our new U3A Nunawading email bulletin. In the coming year, we will communicate with you this way every month or so to ensure you are kept up-to-date with important information including our move to the new Nunawading Community Hub. In addition, we will continue to publish our quarterly newsletter as a round-up, primarily of class activities.

As 2019 comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on some of the highlights of the year.  Of course, for most of us, it’s the class or classes we attend each week that provide such pleasure.  However, on an organisational basis, here are some of the events that members have enjoyed.

  • Combined U3A Choirs concert held in conjunction with other U3As in the eastern metropolitan region;
  • Swing Band Concert held at Eley Park Community Centre;
  • Visit from seniors from Silver City College, Kobe, Japan, interested in finding out how U3A is run here;
  • Seniors Week at Fed Square and City of Whitehorse Spring Festival where we had an information marquee and many classes performed;
  • Visit from Simon McMillan the new Chief Executive Officer City of Whitehorse.

It is also time to recognise all the people who make U3A Nunawading such a wonderful place to be.

Thank you to the Leaders who provide the stimulating classes that are for many of us the highlight of our week.  You are the heart and soul of our organisation.

Thank you to all of our front desk volunteers, the welcoming and friendly faces that people first see when they walk through our front door and who ensure that our reputation as a friendly place to come is maintained.

Thank you to our hard-working Committee of Management whose work behind the scene keeps this organisation running so smoothly.  We value your vital contribution.

And finally thank you to you, our members.  Everyone helps to add their own personal touch.

On behalf of the Committee of Management, I wish you the joys of the season and a happy new year.

See you all again in 2020 for another year of fun and learning.

Liz Hooper (President, U3A Nunawading)
