President’s Message

Liz Hooper

Welcome back to the Hub after our brief lockdown! We were just beginning to feel settled when this lockdown was announced. It is a reminder that the pandemic has not gone away, and we cannot be complacent.

We assure you that serious measures are being taken to ensure that all classes are operating under strict COVID-safe protocols.

COVID-safe protocols

It is essential that we always observe the following rules:

  • All members must wear a mask whilst in the Hub.
  • Members are asked to go directly to their class to
    1. sign in on the attendance sheet.
    2. scan the QR code if they are able.
    3. take their position in class 1.5 metres from the next person.
    4. sanitise all surfaces including tables, chairs and door handles after class.
  • Members are reminded to stay 1.5 metres apart AT ALL TIMES, and to leave the building promptly at the end of their classes.
  • Hand sanitise regularly.

The start of a new year

It has been a busy first week of classes as everyone has found their way around the building. Hopefully you will all soon feel at home in our new location. Two hundred and twenty-eight classes were on offer – a mammoth effort by Elsie and Ken who have done an amazing job getting our program organised. Over 1,400 members have returned and 162 new members have joined in the last couple of weeks.

Welcome to all of you! We hope you enjoy your time at U3A Nunawading.

Lorraine receives her Life Membership

Summer School was again a great success. Thanks to Lorraine Sterling, Summer School Coordinator, the Summer School Committee, Leaders, and Reception Desk Volunteers who helped make it a success. Lorraine has submitted her resignation and we thank her for her many years of service including four years as Secretary and many other roles. We wish Lorraine every success in her role as Course Co-ordinator at U3A Casey.

Ken Briscoe has been appointed by the Committee to fill the Casual Vacancy created by Lorraine’s resignation. Ken brings a wealth of skills and expertise to the Committee of Management where we know that he will continue to make a valuable contribution.

Thanks to Archie for our attractive new-look masthead. You may recognise a few key individuals!

Thank you all for your cooperation, your patience, and your flexibility, as we continue to work within ever-changing COVID restrictions.

Let’s follow the rules and enjoy our classes as much as the situation allows!

Liz Hooper
President (on behalf of the Committee of Management)
