It’s a pleasure to socialise again

We ended Term 1 with Easter celebrations and the Social Club will be treating us to coffee and cake in the last week of this term. We’ve had a number of well-attended Four O’clock Forums and in the second week of the upcoming holidays members will enjoy our first ever Christmas in July lunch at the Hub.

Many of you have already bought your tickets for the Christmas in July lunch, which the Social Committee is hosting on Tuesday 5 July. Please ask at the reception desk for tickets – $40 each. Remember we don’t take cash. You can read more details about the lunch in the Social Committee’s article in this newsletter.

The May Four O’clock Forum was again well-attended. Graphic designer, Dr Keith MacDonald, spoke about abstract art and posed the question: “Compared to figurative art does abstract art make more creative demands on the viewer?” He provided numerous examples of comparisons between traditional art forms and abstract works, highlighting the importance of colour and form. A fascinating presentation which was well-received by the audience. Pictured is June MacDonald, who is responsible for the Forum program and Committee Member Athalie Edis with Dr MacDonald.

Our AGM will be held at 11am on Wednesday 17 August and will be the first AGM to be held face-to-face at the Hub. Three of our committee members will not be standing again, so we are actively seeking new members. This is a very rewarding and interesting experience, but does involve a time commitment of one to two days per week. The main role involves spending a half-day per week in the office as a Duty Committee Member. Each committee member also takes on an additional responsibility. If you are interested in learning more and contributing by being on the Committee of Management, please contact Vice President, Gary Walker.

Please note changes to the speed limits on Springvale Road between West Street and Springfield Road from mid-June (work is commencing on new signs from 6 June). Please be alert for signage indicating new speed limit signs and VMS electronic signs.

Term 2 ends on Friday 24 June and Term 3 begins on Monday 11 July. Enjoy the break!

Warm regards
Liz Hooper, President
on behalf of the Committee of Management
