Welcome back to Term 3

Congratulations to our Social Committee for organising the Coffee and Cake event in the last week of Term 2 and Christmas in July lunch which were both much appreciated by members.

On 17 August we will be holding our 32nd Annual General Meeting at the Hub. The official Notice of Meeting will be sent to you early in August with all the details.

Social update

Social committee at coffee and cake

The Coffee and Cake event served over 500 members on the Monday and Wednesday of the last week of Term 2 and was thoroughly enjoyed by members as you can see in these photos.

There is another major event planned for later this year and Coffee and Cake will again feature in the last week of Term 3.

I was interstate for the second week of the holidays, but I can see from the write-up and photos that our inaugural Christmas in July lunch was a huge success. Once again, congratulations to the Social Committee and everyone involved.

AGM

Our 32nd AGM will be held at 11am on Wednesday 17 August in Studios 1 and 2. If you wish to attend, you will need to register beforehand – details of how to do this will be included in the Notice of Meeting, which will be sent to you no later than 3 August. On the 17th, morning classes which finish after 10.30 am will be cancelled. There will be no morning classes at all in Studios 1 and 2 that day. Only afternoon classes, which commence after 12.30 pm will operate.

If you wish to nominate for the Committee of Management, you need to fill out a nomination form, have it signed by two U3A Nunawading members and submit it to our Secretary, Colin Carter, by 10 August at the latest. Nomination forms will be available on our website shortly. Please make sure that you have spoken to Vice President, Gary Walker, before submitting your nomination form so that you are fully aware of the responsibilities involved in being on the Committee.

Half-year fee

Our half-year fee for the remainder of this year is $40 for all new members and for anyone who is re-joining.

Community garden

We are very proud of the fabulous community garden at the back of the Hub which is maintained by Gabrielle and her team. The garden is constantly expanding and we are enjoying the herbs and vegetables grown and left for members to help themselves every so often in the dining area. Cooking classes using this fresh produce are planned for later in the year.

We often have a vase of fresh flowers from the garden in the Reception area for all members to enjoy.

Library

You are free to borrow books from our community library for as long as you wish. If you wish to borrow books from the Military History library at the back of the bookcase, please leave your name, contact details, and the date on which you borrowed the book. These books are very valuable and must be returned.

Please don’t bring any more books in for the present as we are running out of shelf room.

May you all stay as well as possible throughout winter and please stay away if you are not well!

Warm regards,
Liz Hooper, President
on behalf of the Committee of Management
