Spring is here and it’s a busy time for us all. The Positive Ageing Festival runs through October and U3A members were active at the opening and the Spring Festival. Now these are over, it’s time to think about next year, particularly enrolments and details of the enrolment process for 2024 are in this newsletter.
Whitehorse Positive Ageing Festival launch
Congratulations to everyone involved in the opening of the Whitehorse Positive Ageing Festival on Sunday 1 October.
The Seniors Festival, now renamed the Positive Ageing Festival, was launched at Whitehorse Council’s new performing arts centre called The Round. Since it was newly opened, our Choir, Cantonese Opera, Greek Dancing and Line Dancing were fortunate to showcase their skills at their state-of-the-art Auditorium and the versatile Studio.
The festival was from 10 am until 2 pm, and was well attended by people streaming through to view various exhibitions. We had beautiful displays including drawing with pen and ink, watercolour, pastels, and some woodwork
A huge ‘thank you’ to Paulina Chong and the class leaders for their organisation and presentation. Thanks also to those who supervised the displays and the U3A table.
See the gallery of photos from the event.
Positive Ageing in Whitehorse
Council recently exited the Commonwealth Home Support Programme and in place of this is expanding its Positive Ageing function, which will serve all Whitehorse residents as they get older. As part of this change, Council is looking for feedback on the needs of older people in the community. You can fill in the survey online at https://yoursay.whitehorse.vic.gov.au/positive-ageing or contact the Council’s Positive Ageing team on 9262 6110 or Feedback closes on 30 November.
Spring Festival
The Whitehorse Council Spring Festival will have just been held before this edition is distributed, so a full report will be included in the next newsletter. Many classes from U3A Nunawading were performing, among an exciting mix of live music and dancing with local artists and community groups across multiple stages.
Melbourne Cup Eve Afternoon Tea
Our next social event is our Melbourne Cup Eve Afternoon Tea on Monday 6 November at 1.30 pm. As no classes are conducted on Cup Eve, join in for a fun day. For more detail see the article later in this newsletter.
Coffee & cake
The last Social Committee function of Term 3 was Coffee & Cake on Friday 15 September. This is a great innovation and gives members another chance to socialise at the Hub.

Until next time,
Gary
