President’s Report

A highlight of the past month has been our celebration of Mary Nathan’s 100th birthday. Looking forward, we have Christmas in July coming up during our three-week term break and the Annual General Meeting in August, with planning already underway.

A special celebration

On Thursday 30 May, a morning tea was held to celebrate the 100th birthday of Mary Nathan who has been a member of U3A Nunawading for many years and has lived in Nunawading since the early 1950s. Mary was joined by her daughter Pam, sons Greg and Barry, the City of Whitehorse Mayor, Cr Denise Massoud, plus many of her classmates from the activities she participates in.

Denise made a lovely presentation of flowers to Mary, and we had speeches from Barb Ryder and Mel Thorn who are classmates of hers. A feature of the morning was a visit from the U3A Nunawading Choir who entertained us and made this a memorable day for Mary.

Mary is the first current member of U3A Nunawading to reach the age of 100 and I am sure that she will be around for a number of years to come. Once again, congratulations Mary.

Christmas in July

Don’t forget to get your tickets for Christmas in July before the end of term. The event is during the holiday period, so the reception desk will be closed closer to the date. See the article in this newsletter.

Annual General Meeting

The next Annual General Meeting of U3A Nunawading will be held on Wednesday 21 August at the Hub.

At this meeting all positions on the Committee of Management become vacant and I encourage members to consider nominating for Committee for 24/25. Some members registered their interest on the enrolment form, and I will be contacting them shortly.

I know that this is very early notice of our AGM but it gives members plenty of time to consider if they wish to volunteer. Should you wish to seek further information please email me at . Nomination forms will be available late July.

Three-week break

Term 2 at U3A Nunawading finishes on Friday 21 June and Term 3 commences on Monday 15 July. This is our three-week break which in some cases is a week longer than the gazetted government school holidays. Something to be aware of if you are planning to get away and escape some of our winter weather.

Until next time…
Gary
