On Wednesday 21 August, Studio 2 was filled with over 90 members and 15 guests for the 2023/2024 Annual General Meeting. The business of the day included reporting to members on the activities of the Committee of Management and electing a new Committee of Management for 2024/2025.
At this AGM, we farewelled three Committee members and welcomed three new members. The AGM is also an opportunity to recognise significant contributions to U3A Nunawading, by awarding Life Membership. The Photo Gallery from the AGM gives a taste of the day.
Welcome to new Committee Members
At the AGM we welcomed three new members to the Committee of Management; Carl DiGiovine, Huah Eu and Philip Chan. I am pleased to welcome these fresh faces to the CoM team and I am looking forward to their contributions to the running of U3A Nunawading.
Thank you to retiring members
At this AGM three Committee members stepped down: Andrew Lockwood who has been on the committee for more than 12 years and has looked after our membership system, UMAS; Terry Hart who has been a committee member for four years and has done a magnificent job in our Governance and Risk Management areas; and Lorraine Fowles after two years’ service.
I sincerely thank you for your excellent contributions over many years. Your hard and dedicated work at U3A Nunawading has had a huge influence on its continued success and you will all be greatly missed. The good news is that these members will not be lost to U3A Nunawading as they will still be contributing from outside the CoM.
Presentation of Life Memberships
At a meeting of the Committee on 25 May 2023 the Committee passed a new resolution so that Life Membership now recognises any member who has made an exceptional contribution to U3A Nunawading. Under these new rules, it was my pleasure to present Life Membership to Paul Makinson and Frank Chai for outstanding service to U3A Nunawading. Your dedicated service is certainly worthy of the honour bestowed upon both of you.
The Positive Ageing team
Sallenna Skye (Community Development Office, Positive Ageing) and Lisa Williams (Partnerships and Participation Facilitator), from the Positive Ageing Team at Whitehorse City Council addressed the meeting and gave us an overview of their team’s mission, current projects, and future developments within our community. We are happy to work with the team on our shared interest.
A note of thanks
It was pleasing to receive the following note from a member which was read out at the AGM.
I am writing this to send you all a huge congratulations and thank you for the hours you put in to make U3A Nunawading the amazing organisation that it is. You work with diligence and professionalism to provide an organisation that embraces diversity and provides activities, support and friendship to people at a time of transition in their lives. Please give yourselves a huge pat on the back and celebrate all your contributions to the community. Thank you from a very appreciative member.
Thanks to the Social Committee
To round off the morning, there was a light lunch in Studio 1 with sandwiches, fruit, tea and coffee. Elsie Mutton OAM and Athalie Edis provided some lovely camelia flowers and nasturtium leaves with lavender to grace the tables.
Many thanks to the Social Committee members for their work under difficult circumstances. Due to the building works, there was no kitchen access so urns had to be filled manually and dishes had to be hand-washed following the lunch.
Until next time …
Gary
