Image: The Silver Grove Swing Band was among many impressive performances at the Seniors Festival Grand Opening
On Sunday 6 October 2024, the Hub was a buzz of activity as many of our classes showcased their skills at the Whitehorse Positive Ageing Seniors Festival Grand Opening.
The excitement came not only from our members who were participating, but also from their families and friends who came to support them. There were lots of cheers and laughter, particularly in the performance areas with the audience enjoying themselves and clapping to the beat. See the photo gallery of the day here.
The wide variety of talents and skills came in many forms:
- fine art in different media including digital,
- handicrafts in intricate detail, large and small, using interesting materials,
- special presentations which give your brain a workout like chess, brain exercise or giving creative flair to writing or poetry writing,
- physical activities and performing arts in which some of our members were adorned in bright, colourful costumes,
- musical talent including singing from our 30+ member choir and music from our Swing Band, Guitar and Ukulele Jam groups.
With almost all the meeting rooms and studios in use, the throng of people attending was impressive, peaking during the Official Opening when Nick McGowan (Member of the Victorian Legislative Council for North-Eastern Metropolitan) gave the opening speech.
Our members enjoyed the opportunity to display their skills and share the joy in the activities they love doing. Thank you to the leaders involved on the day for all the work in preparing your classes for these events.
It was a wonderful celebration of positive ageing!
