Seniors Festival celebrates Positive Ageing

The Grand Opening of the Whitehorse Seniors Festival on Thursday 1 October was a great success. City of Whitehorse Mayor, Kirsten Langford, gave the opening speech and commented on the great work U3A Nunawading does for Positive Ageing in Whitehorse. Nick McGowan, MP, Member for North-Eastern Metropolitan; Matthew Gregg, MP, Member for Deakin; and Paul Hamer, MP, Member for Box Hill also recognised our value to the community. See the photo gallery of the day here.

What a range of skills and abilities!

The event showed what a wide range of skills and abilities our members bring to positive ageing!

  • Our members like to keep active – from the energetic zumba through line dancing, rock ‘n’ roll and Tai Chi to chair-based exercise.
  • We have a large range of cultural dance skills, many with gorgeous costumes.
  • Music is important to many of our members, with our Swing Band, Choir, ukulele and guitar players all involved.
  • We have talented artists using a range of media, including digital.
  • Handicrafts offer many members an outlet where they can show their dexterity with interesting materials including paper clay, coloured paper and sugar.

Thanks to all who made the day such a success

There’s a long list of people who made this day work:

  • Paulina Chong and Elsie Mutton, whose organisation of the day is the key to it all.
  • The Leaders and Co-Leaders who put so much work into getting their class performers ready.
  • The performers and exhibitors who showed off their skills and their enjoyment of their activities.
  • MC Valerie Donlon.
  • Music master James Briscoe (Ken’s grandson) on the day; and Lindsay Glen, who set up beforehand.
  • Committee members and volunteers who worked hard behind the scenes to pull it together on the day.
  • Whitehorse Council staff: Craig Pearcey from the NCH team and Lisa Williams from the Positive Ageing team.

Thank you to you all!
