The new year brings new opportunities. This January edition of Snippets brings information about joining a singing group; volunteering to help tutor English; and a callout from Box Hill Institute for past students and staff to contribute to their centenary celebrations.
Singing for fun and friendship
Sing Australia Blackburn North is a group of people who love to sing for fun and friendship. There are no auditions and there is no need to read music or learn words. They sing a variety of songs and there are opportunities to perform for community organisations.
Singing sessions are held weekly on Thursdays between 7.30 pm and 9.30 pm at the Forest Hills Village Community Centre, 264 Springvale Road, Nunawading. For more information go to singaustralia.com.au/, email: or contact Mick Both, the Group Leader Ph: 0414 484 080.
Volunteers needed to tutor English
The Melbourne AMEP Volunteer Tutor Scheme matches volunteers with people from migrant and refugee backgrounds learning English. With one-hour weekly sessions, volunteers support learners to gain confidence in conversational English; learn more about Australian culture, and find employment or access local services. Importantly, volunteers connect people to community.
No teaching experience is needed as training is provided. For more information go to melbourneamep.com.au/volunteer/ or you can register for an information session via Zoom on Wednesday 21 February from 6.30 pm. Please register through Eventbrite
