Snippets

Spring has arrived and our September Snippets include a raft of spring offerings. Aqualink is offering a discount on membership, Heritage Week reminds us of the way our streets are changing, the Big Sing brings community voices together, and the Beyond Age exhibition celebrates experiences of ageing. There’s also a Chinese cultural festival celebration, an opportunity to discover the new senior exercise equipment in Tunstall Park and a local school holiday program to explore. In addition, there’s a reminder about street parking, news from the café and a call for volunteers for our newsletter team.

Street parking reminder

Remember to allow local residents easy access to their driveways!
The Victorian road rules (P263) state that:

“Vehicles must be parked to allow free access to the driveway. Always maintain a safe distance from driveways to prevent obstruction. This typically means parking at least one metre away from the driveway entrance.”

Where is my coffee

Where is my coffee café will be open during the U3A holidays, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 2:30 pm, serving up the same delicious coffees and drinks you love, as well as a selection of sweets, sandwiches and savouries. Feel free to stop by on the holidays or organise your meetups at the café.

They’ll have some specials available at the café and will be running a sausage sizzle on the opening day of the Whitehorse Seniors Festival at the Hub, so you can fuel up before or after attending the activities.

Our newsletter team needs help

There’s a team of U3A members producing our twice-a-term newsletter: editors, content uploaders, proofreaders, photo editors and more. Being volunteers, we occasionally need to take holidays, support our families and eventually retire from the team, which has happened for a couple of team members recently.

We are now looking for some new members who could help us in any of these roles. You would be trained or mentored (depending on the role), but we are looking for people who can work independently while still communicating with the team.

If you are interested in offering your skills, please enrol in 26AAVOL7 Volunteer to help with eNews and Website on Member Wizard and our team leader, Helen Smith, will contact you to discuss further.
