Members were transported to the Festive Season on Tuesday 5 July as they entered the Hub for U3A Nunawading’s inaugural Christmas in July luncheon.
More than 160 members including partners attended the Social Committee’s first major event, which was held in Studios 1 and 2. So that no one would miss out, an extra table was added to the original plan to enable almost everyone on the waiting list to attend.

The fun and magic of Christmas were created by large decorations lining the passageway as members approached the function room, which itself sparkled from the wall decorations to the tables themselves.
Background Christmas music and wintery screen images provided by Bert Lopes added to the Christmas atmosphere. Delicate folded paper Christmas trees made by June MacDonald and members of Kitty Wong’s Papercraft class adorned each table along with fresh holly provided by Lina Grillo. The photo gallery shows the atmosphere.

Social Committee Convenor Gary Walker was a lively Master of Ceremonies, keeping guests informed of proceedings and conducting lucky door prized draws of Lindt Chocolates and Sparkling Chandon.
There were lots and lots of compliments about the quality of the traditional Christmas meal and the generous catering even allowed for seconds for those who had a little more room.
Many thanks to Suzanne Mourant, Elsie Mutton’s daughter, who supplied so many of the wonderful decorations, which helped to create the wonderful festive atmosphere.

Social Committee members Gary Walker, Lorraine Fowles, Elsie Mutton, Carol Clough, Paulina Chong, Huah Eu, Jean Sik, Teresa Eaves and Jenny Chalmers are to be congratulated on their meticulous planning, and hours and hours of hard work, which went into making our first ever Christmas in July such a great success.
The Social Committee would also like to thank Frank Baseden, Athalie Edis and Lindsay Glen who assisted in the setting up of Studios 1 and 2 the day before the luncheon and Vice President Valerie Donlon and Treasurer Pauline Wang for managing the ticketing and finance for the event.
