Vale John Shattock

It is with sadness we learnt that long-time leader, John Shattock, passed away on 20 February. John was a former Science teacher, and first started leading our U3A Astronomy Class in 1998.

John told us back then that “he had always been interested in the wonder of creation, the vastness of space, what’s out there and how does it work?”. This interest came through in his popular class, discussing concepts and many questions, and with the occasional excursion in the early years. John also often ran Summer School classes on Cosmology.

After almost 25 years as a course leader, John retired in mid-2023 due to ill health. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him at U3A and the Committee of Management extend their sympathy to his family on behalf of all our members.
