Please avoid parking in the few spaces in front of the Scout Hall

As we say goodbye to Term 1, have a look at all the new classes commencing in Term 2 that are available to enrol in, and those you can go on a waitlist for.

Enjoy the two-week break and please remember when you come back that it is to everyone’s advantage that you don’t attend a class if you have any signs of a cold. If you do have symptoms of COVID make sure you test, and if you test positive, act fast and call your GP. You may be eligible for COVID-19 anti-viral medicine.

Stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you back to classes in Term 2 which commences on Tuesday 22 April.

You will learn how to prepare and cook: zucchini slice, blueberry banana muffins, honey curry roasted cauliflower, Indian dahl & roti and cauliflower khichari (rice & lentil soup). There is a small fee for ingredients.

25EXES10: Lawn Bowls – introduction. Commencing 24 April. Thursday, 1 pm – 3 pm. Blackburn North Bowling Club. Leader John Blasetti.

Lawn Bowls is the royal and ancient outdoor/indoor game of skill and fellowship. This class is an entry-level program for both the novice and the lapsed bowler.

25HUM072: The Truth of who you are. Commencing 23 April. Wednesday 11:15 am to 12:45 pm. Studio 3. Leader Colin Carter.

When you can really see through the egoic version of yourself and see a more authentic self, your life will become more complete, fulfilled, and more resilient to what our stage of life can throw at us. It is a mix of science, raw spirituality, and psychology.

25HUM035: What is Living for Today? Commencing 23 April. Wednesday 11 am to 12:15 pm. Studio 5. Leader David Isaac.

What is Living for Today? It is a different way of looking at life today. In a way, to realise that TODAY is the most important part of our life here on this land. Today will never return. The aim is to enjoy every new day as much as you can knowing the day will never return. So, share a SMILE with as many people as you can, knowing that no one can resist a friendly smile without responding with a smiling face in return.

25HIS034: History & Philosophy of Science. Commencing 30 April. Wednesday 9 am to 10:30 am. Studio 4. Leader David Bednall.

The sciences have a profound effect on our lives. Computers, cars, vaccines, and energy sources to name a few. Some of the discoveries are mind-boggling, like those in astronomy, quantum physics and microbiology. In this course we’ll explore the history of some key developments. We’ll also ask some philosophical questions – how do scientists do research by building theory and collecting data and how often are they wrong? What are some key approaches in medicine and astronomy? Along the way we’ll explore some fascinating issues, such as how religion and science fit together, and the often-forgotten roles of female scientists and climate change. There will be plenty of opportunity to discuss and raise further questions.

25HIS049: The Origins of Mankind. Part 2. Commencing 24 April. Thursday 11:15 am to 12:15 pm. Meeting Room 4. Leader Gilbert Foster.

This course continues with the origins of mankind. Term 1 dealt with the evolution of man and this term will concentrate on the Neolithic Age – an age in which settled agriculture began, towns grew up, art, trade and rituals developed. Members are welcome to join even if they missed Part 1. No prior knowledge is required only a fascination with our own ancient history.

New classes that are WAITLIST only

If you are interested, it is still worth adding your name to the waitlist as members do withdraw for various reasons.

Car parking

Remember the Scout Hall car park is a shared space

Please avoid parking in the few spaces in front of the Scout Hall in Mark Place, particularly on a Wednesday morning. It is difficult for the leader of another group using the Scout Hall to bring his equipment in if he has to park away from the entrance.

A request for Term 2

Street parking shown in blue

If you are fit and able to walk a short distance to the Hub, please park in any of the surrounding streets either side of Springvale Road to make it easier for those who have trouble with any distance walking to park in the car park. If you park in Russell or Luckie Street, it’s just a brief walk through the park and you can enter from the doors facing the oval area.

Term 1 was busy

It has been a very busy term with us all trying to work out the new directional signs in the Esdale Street car park, the managing of enough chairs in the rooms and the list goes on.

On a positive note, we have purchased new chairs for Studio 1 and 2 which will allow the Council to distribute other chairs to the rooms to alleviate the need to keep moving chairs around.

Term 2 coming up

Enjoy the holiday break and come back refreshed and ready for a 10-week term. Remember if you are going away or are unwell during the term, please make an apology either online, via telephone, or advise your leader or at the office.
