Our September Snippets springs into a diverse range of activities including an Indigenous art exhibition; positive ageing sessions; Monash University’s FODMAP diet lecture; Dementia Action Week and the local school holiday program, plus there is a Women’s Weekly story featuring three of our members.
Free Australian art exhibition

In late August, the Thursday Art Appreciation class visited the Potter Museum of Art at the University of Melbourne to be overwhelmed by the more than 400 works on display, including artworks and cultural objects from the University’s collections, loans from private and public lenders and new commissions.
65,000 Years: A short history of Australian art celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art while confronting our nation’s colonial history and the importance of Indigenous knowledge and agency. The exhibition, which finishes on 22 November, is free and easily accessed by public transport. See the photo gallery here
Members grace the pages of the Women’s Weekly

The October issue of the Australian Women’s Weekly (on-sale late September) features a story about the Biscuit Tin Project. U3A members, Elvira, Yvonne and Scarlet took part in this project in 2024 with the City of Whitehorse and Celebrate Ageing Ltd, The Older Women’s Network NSW and Elder Rights Advocacy Victoria to raise awareness of the contributions and achievements of older women.
The aim of the project was to build respect and combat the inequalities older women experience and is part of the annual Older Women Count program launched for International Women’s Day each year.
