In 2024, three of our members took part in a project with the City of Whitehorse partnered with Celebrate Ageing Ltd, The Older Women’s Network NSW and Elder Rights Advocacy Victoria to raise awareness of the contributions and achievements of older women.
The aim of the project was to build respect and combat the inequalities older women experience and is part of the annual Older Women Count program launched for International Women’s Day each year.
Background information for the project states that:
‘Older women make valuable contributions as leaders, CEOs, volunteers, academics, carers, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, neighbours, colleagues and friends. Despite their contributions and achievements, older women are devalued and experience significant inequalities.’
‘Recipes for Respect’ is an outcome of the Biscuit Tin project – a recipe book that includes a history of each participant, a summary of their achievements and what respect means to them, as well as their recipe for a favourite biscuit. You can read more about the project and download the recipe book from the Whitehorse project page
Congratulations to our three members for their contributions to this project.
