Many classes enjoyed a chance to celebrate the friendships and fun had as a U3A member throughout 2023, and have shared their group’s smiling faces at their end-of-year gatherings in our Christmas photo gallery. Thank you to everyone who contributed these happy snaps.
During enrolment week, a series of workshops provided an opportunity to get into the Christmas spirit, with Christmas card making, Christmas book trees and Christmas baubles. Some lovely creations resulted.
Days before, we anticipated a wet Spring Festival but much to our delight, the weather was kind on the day bringing together a community from all walks of life who attended.
The Melbourne Cup Eve Afternoon Tea on Monday 6 November was filled with style and a palpable sense of excitement. Guests were welcomed with a glass of bubbly champagne or soft drink and given a Mystery Bet ticket.

The U3A Nunawading Military History Group have a rather unique model of content delivery in its various learning activities. Instead of the traditional top-down delivery of a set syllabus via a lecturer, the group members generate their own content.
The Seniors Festival, now renamed the Positive Ageing Festival, was launched at Whitehorse Council’s new performing arts centre called The Round. Since it was newly opened, our Choir, Cantonese Opera, Greek Dancing and Line Dancing were fortunate to showcase their skills at their state-of-the-art Auditorium and the versatile Studio.

Four new Committee of Management Members were elected at our 33rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on the morning of 16 August at the Nunawading Community Hub. Approximately 90 members and invited guests attended the meeting.
On Monday 7 August and Thursday 10 August, 2023, the Member Liaison Sub-committee prepared and served successful morning teas to new members. Though new members have only been able to enrol for class vacancies since Term 3, both sessions were well attended, cheerful and lively. Eighteen attended the Monday session and ten attended the Thursday session.
In July 2023, 34 students from U3A’s French 1, 3 and 4A classes attended a delicious lunch at Le Voltaire in Belgrave. We enjoyed a fabulous two-course meal with wine and delightful conversation. French colours were worn proudly and we gave a good rendition of La Marseillaise at the end of the meal.
