Harmony Day on 21 March inspired us to come together to celebrate the tapestry of traditions, and customs that make each of us unique, yet connected.

The Whitehorse Council’s Culture Fest at the Strathdon House precinct on Sunday 24 March was a celebration of unity in diversity, where people from different backgrounds came together to share their traditions. Among the enthusiastic participation of various cultural groups, our U3A members offered a glimpse into their heritage through captivating performances and culinary delights.
A warm welcome was extended to our newest members at morning teas on 26 and 29 February. At each event, our President, Gary Walker, gave a heartfelt welcome speech and spoke briefly about U3A and how it is run by volunteers. He emphasised the importance of community in enhancing the experience for everyone, and that members’ input was invaluable in the operations of U3A Nunawading.
Welcome back to classes for Term 1!
Term 1 started off with a real bang, with the Hub once again full of members going to and from classes, chatting, finding their way around, and settling into their 2024 classes. A very hectic week for the Course Admin Team (Elsie, Ken, Mai, Cynthia, and new member Ian), and for the Reception Desk volunteers who did a terrific job handling hundreds of queries.
The second week of Nunawading U3A’s 2024 Summer School provided an opportunity for members to join excursions to places of interest around Melbourne. Our members were able to explore backstage at the new Whitehorse performing arts centre, see behind the scenes at the Jazz Museum, go back in time at Rippon Lea and the Old Treasury building, and admire William Johnston’s renowned antiques collection. A wonderful week of tours.
Our 2024 Summer School has drawn to a close after four days of excitement in the Hub. Taiji on the lawn started each day of dancing, singing, creating, making, cooking, tasting, drawing, sketching, painting, playing, stitching, quizzing, knitting, learning, listening, and viewing.

An end-of-year lunch was held for class leaders to acknowledge their service and commitment throughout 2023. This dynamic group is the heart and soul of U3A Nunawading’s success.
The concert was a celebration of the diverse talents within the U3A family. As the event came to a close, the audience and performers alike left having a sense of camaraderie and contentedness that the end of year brings.
