As we reach the end of another year, we look forward to 2025 and welcome new and returning members. Read the full article for the amazing job our enrolment team has done. We also express our gratitude to Class Leaders and note changes to car parking for the new year.

Yet another busy enrolment period

Thank you to all who have enrolled, particularly those who managed to enrol themselves online and reduce the pressure on the enrolment team. A big thank you to the team – Skip Lam, Mai Roff, Tony Widdows, Ian Grayson, Cynthia Au and Ken Briscoe – who together with myself, assisted around 400 members to enrol in person at the Hub. We were supported by a great team of Reception Desk volunteers, marshals, and committee members. A special thank you to Ken for making sure the UMAS membership system performed as expected and handled the heavy online load.

As at the end of week one of enrolments we have a total of 6274 enrolments (i.e. slots in classes that have been filled). There are still a number of waitlisted classes and these will continue to be worked on in the coming weeks. We try to accommodate as many of you as possible in at least one class and where possible increase class limits to help us achieve this.

Make sure you finish enrolment

A number of people have quit the enrolment process before finishing, meaning they may have missed out on getting into some courses. Make sure you get the ‘Checkout Success’ message shown below before logging out.

You may see the Checkout button twice:

  1. when you view your Cart:

2. when you need to tick acceptance of the Terms and Conditions:

Make sure you click both buttons and get the Checkout Success message before you logout.

Class Leaders make a difference

Thanks to all our Class Leaders for your efforts during the year, which keeps U3A Nunawading such a wonderful place to be. To those Class Leaders who are not resuming next year, many thanks and all the best for your future.

During the year, issues sometimes arise where a Class Leader can no longer continue, and the class is in danger of discontinuing. Some of our other members and Class Leaders have stepped up to take over, either temporarily or permanently. Thank you to those wonderful folk. Your class members – and U3A Nunawading – are very grateful.

Esdale Street car park

Over the break, there will be work done on the Esdale Street car park. When you return to classes, please give yourself time to become aware of the changes.  Directional arrows, zebra crossings, and lines will be repainted and speed humps installed.

Christmas workshops

Thank you to members Jill Withington, Betty Boucher, Sophia Au, Kitty Wong and Jane Xu who took Christmas workshops during enrolment week. Members who attended were very appreciative and loved showing off their finished projects.

Best wishes for the Festive Season

The Course Admin team, Ken, Skip, Mai, Cynthia, Ian and I, wish you the best for the Festive Season and a safe return to us in 2025.

Elsie Mutton OAM
Course Administrator.
