The 2026 year has commenced. Have there been a few challenges? Yes! But the enthusiasm that you have all brought with you in attending classes makes it all worthwhile.

We are still working with our Class Leaders to try to make sure you will all be placed in at least one class of your choice.

If you are looking to enrol in another class, check if the class is still taking enrolments or is closed. Some classes have been closed due to the waitlist being so large that you would never be accepted into the class in 2026.

New Italian Class Leaders

Welcome to two new Class Leaders: Sam Salamone, who is taking a new Italian Beginners class, and Connie Bramble, who has taken over the Italian 2A level class when the previous Leader had to withdraw. I hope you both enjoy sharing your skills and knowledge with U3A Nunawading.

New classes

26LANI03: Italian beginners. Tuesday 1:15 pm to 2:15 pm. Studio 5. Leader: Sam Salamone.

26COM211: Windows File Management Thursday, 2 pm – 4 pm. Studio 3. Three weeks commencing 4 June. Leader: Tony Widdows.
You will learn a way to organise your folders and how to use your free OneDrive or other cloud storage, so you can readily find what you are looking for. We will also show ways to back up your PC to avoid extra OneDrive costs that Microsoft seems intent on us paying! For intermediate or experienced Windows users – bring your own laptop.

Vacancies

There are some classes that still have vacancies in the following subject areas: Craft, Dance, Exercise Walking Groups, Games, History, Music, and Science. Check online for these classes.

Changes to your enrolment

If you find you are in a class and you can no longer attend, please withdraw to make room for someone on the waitlist. In Term 1, if you are going to be away, please put in an apology.

Special note for Term 1 – If you are in a class that has a large waitlist and you know you are going to be away for 3 or more weeks, the Class Leader may ask for you to be removed from the class as they will have moved on with their learning. The place can then be offered to a member on the waitlist who is able to attend.

Classes that overlap

A reminder – if you happen to be in a class that overlaps with another class, you need to decide which class you wish to attend:

  • You cannot be late for one or leave another class early.
  • If you are in a class that operates alternate weeks or monthly, you cannot enrol in another class on the same day and time and be absent from the weekly class.

Don’t miss out! COMPLETE your online checkout!

If you enrol in a class online by adding the class to your Cart, you must then click on the Cart symbol in the top right-hand corner then click CHECKOUT in the pop-up Cart window. Keep going until you see the Checkout success message, otherwise, your selections remain unprocessed and will be left just sitting in the Cart.

You are not enrolled until you see the Checkout success message!

Emergency procedures

During the break we held an information session for Class Leaders. The main aim was to discuss the Hub emergency details. See more in our article on the Class Leader briefing. Our Class Leaders will be talking to you regarding what is expected of you if there is an emergency at the Hub. We ask that you follow their instructions on what to do if there is an emergency.

Name badges

Remember to wear your name badge as soon as you enter the Hub. This identifies you as being a member of U3A Nunawading. Just ask at Reception if you don’t have a name badge or need a new one. Pin on badges are available for those doing Exercise classes.

Class set up

The City of Whitehorse duty people do their best to move furniture around, and flip tables so that we can run our classes efficiently. It helps if you and other members of your class can help if the room is not set up as you expected.

Seniors exercise equipment

After a number of years planning and lobbying to have seniors exercise equipment located in a place for our seniors to exercise in their own time it has finally been installed. The equipment is located near the children’s playground off Luckie Street. Go and explore.
