From the Course Admin Team

It is fortunate that some classes not held in the Hub have been able to continue during the most recent COVID-19 lockdown. The walking groups have been out and about but always mindful of the most important issue – where they might have coffee!

The bushwalkers needed to modify their walk to stay within the 5km rule while some of the others split into two groups to fit in with COVID-19 restrictions.

However, as all of our Term 2 Computer classes were held on Zoom, these all went ahead as scheduled. In uncertain times like these there’s a lot to be said for online learning.

We were hoping to hold quite a number of different types of classes during the holidays to make up for the missed weeks, but the ongoing 4-square metre spacing rules out most of our activities. However, two of our dancing classes met under the veranda in the last week of term, so there may be an opportunity for a very small number of classes to go ahead after all. If your class is able to run you will be advised.

Fingers crossed that the restrictions will continue to ease and we will be able to start Term 3 as we were before the lockdown. If the current spacing rule remains we will have to rethink what classes we can safely hold.

Community Hub Art Project

Whitehorse Council commissioned the Blender Studios to facilitate a community art project at the Hub involving vibrant street art murals located around the exterior of the building.

A number of our artists attended a workshop but due to COVID-19 restrictions only three were invited to participate alongside representatives of the other community groups who call the Hub home. U3A Members Gillian Gale, Lesley Cormick and Cheryl Stanner are pictured above with their paintbrushes at the ready. This photo shows one of Blender Studios’ artists working on one of the birds to feature in the evolving work, which will include native flora and fauna.

When you return to U3A have a look at the murals on the concrete walking path walls.
