Dr. Jane Wenlock: Wednesday 29 March, Studio 2 at 4 pm

Ancient Chaldean carving

Those of you who are grandparents who have to help younger members of your family with homework, socialising, cultural and language differences, and trying to adapt to different routines; or those of you who have migrated and know how hard it is to learn another language and fit in to a new community (i.e., a school community) – you will appreciate Dr Jane Wenlock’s presentation and her insights into how important the ‘parenting role’ is even outside school hours. Jane Wenlock is a Doctor of Education. Her presentation will share research on the migrant Chaldean* community to illustrate how equity and justice for all in education is so important.

*Chaldeans are Aramaic-speaking, Eastern Rite Catholics. They have a history that spans more than 5,500 years, dating back to Mesopotamia, which was known as the cradle of civilization and is present-day Iraq.

An important update on retirement and aged care

Graeme Quinlan: Wednesday 26 April, Studio 2 at 4 pm

Graeme Quinlan is a Principal in First Financial and specialist in superannuation and retirement planning. More importantly he is also an educator. The information he gives you will be up-to-date with rates, thresholds, and legislation. He will tell you the truth about retirement and the demographics from the Australian Institute of Health and welfare i.e., the care-free years, the quieter years and the frail years. He will give you the hard facts about Residential Care in detail; how to choose a facility and what to expect from RADs/ DAPs and means tested fees and on-going fees. Even if you think you know it all, you will have the opportunity to ask a question that just might make a big difference to your peace of mind.
