We invite you to join in celebrating Harmony Day on Thursday 21 March, from 11 am to 2 pm. Bring a plate of food showcasing your cultural background. If you have a traditional outfit, why not wear that too!

What is Harmony Day?

We come together to celebrate Harmony Day on 21 March. Introduced by the Australian Federal Government in 1999 to celebrate unity and diversity, Harmony Day was originally an Australian celebration but is now marked worldwide.

This is a celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Harmony Day was expanded to a full week in 2019.

Harmony Week celebrates that no matter where you come from, we’re united by the Australian values of freedom, respect, fairness, democracy and equal opportunity.

So let’s embrace and celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our U3A Nunawading community and share the beauty of our different cultures, languages and cuisines.

Dress to impress

We invite you to come on this special day dressed in your traditional outfit from your cultural background. It would be a great conversation starter and an opportunity to share a glimpse of fascinating stories behind the traditions and customs.

If you don’t have a traditional outfit, you can wear orange to show your support.

Food brings us together

They say the best way to understand a culture is through its food. You will have the opportunity to bring a dish featuring a speciality originating from your country. Sample mouth-watering dishes prepared by others as well, sharing each other’s culinary heritage.

So, mark your calendars and join us to celebrate our differences while recognising the common humanity that unites us all. A celebration of unity in diversity.
